Jonathan Willis was born in South Carolina and grew up predominantly in northern Virginia. During his high school career, he was a guest soloist on piano and saxophone for jazz band, orchestra, symphonic band and choir as well as accompanist for soloists and the musical production of 'South Pacific' at Hylton High School in Prince William County. He attended Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, graduating in 2009 with honors as a double major in Music Education. During his college career, he played saxophone and solo piano for Lee University's Wind Ensemble, under the direction of the world-renown composer and bandmaster Dr. David Holsinger, as well touring extensively with the Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Small Jazz Ensemble, Festival Choir, Orchestra, and Saxophone Quartet. After college, Jonathan married his wife, Sarah and they relocated to Huntsville.
Since living in Huntsville, Jonathan is a sought after accompanist through UAH, musical theater productions, and as a private lessons instructor. He is also a frequently sought after instructor for numerous band programs throughout Madison. Jonathan is very excited about being the band director at St. John's and Holy Spirit for his 3rd year. The band program has since taken off in numbers and notoriety. Last year everyone in the band that could attend participated in Solo and Ensemble, earning straight highest ratings. Members of the band also played with the drama's production of Little Mermaid. He has a lot of big plans for the band program and can't wait for the year to get started!
