Julie Godwin, 5th Grade

Welcome! I am Julie Godwin. I am originally from Decatur, AL. I belong to Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Huntsville. I graduated from the University of South Alabama in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I began teaching 4th grade at Christ the King Catholic School in Daphne, AL. I knew I wanted to be closer to family I moved back home to North Alabama in July of the next year. I taught 2nd grade at St. John’s from 2004-2009. I was actively involved with the Sacramental Preparation program for those years as well. In 2009, I had the opportunity to return to Decatur and teach 3rd grade at St. Ann’s Catholic School. It was neat to teach in the school that I had been a student in so many years before! I taught at St. Ann’s for four years. During this time, I was able to return to school at the University of North Alabama and obtain my master’s degree. I returned to my St. John’s family in the fall of 2014.

When I’m not in the classroom, I love to sing, watch movies, spend time with my family, and watch Auburn football. WAR EAGLE! My husband and I have one daughter, Margaret, who is in 8th grade. I have three God children-Anna, Eli, and Alex. They are such a blessing in my life! I like to collect penguins and am always on the lookout for a new, interesting item with a penguin.

Fifth grade rocks! Fifth grade is a transition year between elementary school and middle school. In 5th grade, students get to use lockers and switch classes! I teach fifth grade math and science as well as social studies and Religion to my homeroom. I’m so blessed to be able to share my Catholic faith every day with my students. It is the reason I love teaching in Catholic schools!

Thank you for sharing your child with me this year! It is a responsibility that I do not take lightly. I honor and respect you as the primary teachers of your children. I hope to work with you in this endeavor this year. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at jgodwin@stjohnb.com
