Ms. Sledd

I was born in Huntsville, Al.  My father was in the military, Army, so we traveled all over Europe before settling in Decatur, AL.  I attended St. Ann’s for part of elementary school and also Woodmeade Elementary.  I graduated from Austin High School in Decatur, AL in 1999.  After two years of going to Calhoun Community College, I transferred to the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL.  I graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  I stayed in the gulf area for the next year to teach 4th grade at Christ the King Catholic School in Daphne, AL.  I chose to return to north Alabama in 2004 to be closer to my growing family.  I have been teaching 2nd grade at St. John’s ever since!

My family all lives in north Alabama.  I have two older brothers, both of whom are married, and one younger sister.  One brother lives in Huntsville and the other lives in Birmingham.  My sister lives in Decatur with my mom.  I am very close to my family!  We lost my dad on March 9, 2005 to a heart attack and leukemia.  I am active with the American Heart Association so “Jump Rope for Heart” is a big deal for me!  I am aunt to one nephew, Nathan, and three nieces, Abby, Anna, and Samantha.  Anna is my godchild!

I LOVE penguins!!!! You will see tons of penguins all around the room!  I also love chocolate!  I have a cat named Sasha.  Sasha loves to sleep all day!  She is a lazy old cat!  I love to read, spend time with my family, sing, and play board games!  My motto about school is this:  “School exists for children!”  Without great kids like you, I would not be here!  Thank you for being a wonderful child of God and a gift to me!
