PHYSICAL EDUCATION
RULES AND PROCEDURES
Physical Education is part of the total education program at St. John’s. Students are encouraged and instructed to improve their personal health, skill performance, and leadership abilities. They learn to appreciate and perform individual, group and team activities, which they can use and enjoy both now and in the future.
EXCUSES:
· Students who are ill, may be excused from activity with a written note from a parent for the day. This note is good for no more than two (2) consecutive days. Frequent excuses are discouraged.
· This note is to be brought to the teacher at the beginning of class, on the day to be excused.
· If an excuse from an activity is necessary for more than two (2) days, the student must secure a ‘medical excuse’ from a doctor.
· Tardiness to class must be accompanied by a pass. An unexcused tardy to class may result in loss of points or discipline.
· Once instruction has begun, students still in the locker room will be tardy.
CONDUCT:
· A respectful and pleasant attitude toward all adults and fellow students.
· Respect the directions of all teachers.
· Enter the gym with walking feet and quiet talking voices.
· Conduct becoming ladies and gentlemen is expected.
· Obscene language, physical misconduct, fighting, loitering in the locker room, pushing are not permitted.
LOCKER ROOM:
· Students are not assigned lockers. It is on a first come first serve basis.
· Purses, jewelry, backpacks, book bags, and other items of values should not be brought into the locker room.
· Students have approximately 3-4 minutes to change clothes.
· Standing around talking in the locker room is not permitted.
· Standing on the benches in the locker room is not permitted.
· Students must keep hands to themselves at all times in the locker room.
GRADING:
Points will be taken off for the following
· Incomplete uniform
· Failure to listen and follow directions
· Daily effort
· Gum chewing
· Lack of cooperation
· Poor attitude
· Non-participation
· Tardies
· Failure to follow safety rules
· Extra credit will not be offered
P.E. UNIFORM:
P.E. uniforms must be purchased through Dennis Uniforms. Uniforms consist of navy blue shorts with logo, grey t-shirt with logo, crew socks, and appropriate athletic shoes. Only students in 3rd through 8th grade will need a P.E. uniform.
Athletic shoes must be tied and stay on the feet. Slip on athletic shoes, strap on athletic shoes, and athletic shoes without arch support such as converse high/low tops are not allowed. All shoes must be tied appropriately and stay on the foot.
· Shorts must hit at the knee or slightly above
· T-shirts must fall below the waistband when arms are raised overhead
· Shorts must fit on the hip and may not be pulled into a low ride position
· Uniform must be clean and free from stains and rips
· Jewelry should not be worn
