TIPS TO BULLY PROOF THE GYM

DIRECT BULLYING USUALLY INVOLVES HITTING, KICKING, OR MAKING INSULTS, OFFENSIVE AND SNEERING COMMENTS, OR THREATS.

The following suggestions are things we do here at St. John’s to help students understand that physical, emotional, and verbal abuse is an unacceptable way to solve problems in physical education class.

LET AN ADULT KNOW

Telling an adult is not the same as tattling.  Let the teacher know you are in a situation that requires help.

STOP AND THINK

We tell the students they have the power to ‘stop and think’ before they speak or act.  This allows a student to not say or do something that may get them in trouble or hurt someone else.  STOP THE ACTION they are doing and THINK about why they are doing the action.

WALK AWAY

Walk away from the group, person, or situation that is making you become angry or frustrated.  Count to 10 slowly and continue to do this as many times as you feel you need to.  Tense and relax your muscles in your body from the top of your head to the tips of your toes.
