There are three ways to donate to the silent auction.
There are a lot of places to go and get ideas for baskets. Do an internet search on “gift baskets” and look at commercial gift basket sites for inspiration. Have fun with it and don’t be afraid to get creative. What about doing a basket all in one color? Base a basket on a popular children’s character like Star Wars or Curious George. Think about a popular hobby like scrapbooking, painting, gardening or reading. Just get creative. But if you need help, here is a list of silent auction ideas. And remember, the silent auction team is here to help. Don’t hesitate to email your questions to GalaSilentAuction@stjohnb.org. We would be glad to assist you in any way we can.
Gala baskets can be very personal so it is hard to guess what will be the “hot” item from year to year. But baskets that feature a dining element seem to do well, that is, the baskets sell for very close to their actual retail value. Baskets that feature wine, spirits and restaurant gift certificates are well received year after year. These are always a good bet.
We encourage each family to spend what they can and thank everyone for their contribution—no matter how large or small. The average Gala basket sells for about $50, so that is a good place to start.
Donating to the silent auction is totally voluntary.
We will begin accepting donations at the school on Friday, January 15. We will have a drop off set up during car line each Friday morning or you can deliver your donation to the school at any time throughout the week. Please download the donations form and bring it with your donation. We ask that all donations be delivered to the school no later than Friday, February 12.
We appreciate all donations. Please have them email the donations team lead at galadonations@stjohnb.org and we will coordinate their silent auction donation.
Saint John’s Catholic School is a 501(c) non-profit organization so all donations made are tax deductible. Receipts will be provided to you which you can use to claim the fair market value of your donation. Fair market value is the amount someone is willing to pay for your item. If you purchased the item, save your store receipt and attach it to the receipt provided by the school.
